XARM might possibly have been the stupidest and funniest MMA sport in the world.
Back in 2008 MMA was beginning to become as big as it is now, organizations such as UFC, PRIDE and Strikeforce were beginning to make inroads and breakthrough as mainstream sports. A long way away from their no rules cage origins. Back in the early 90’s Art Davie was one of the initial people behind the first UFC championship. He also brought the Japanese K1 kickboxing organisation from Japan to the USA and Pay per view.
For a longtime he vanished from the fighting Scene, to do what we do not know. What we do know is some time in 2008 he almost certainly watched Sylvester Stallone’s Critically Acclaimed (by no-one) 80’s movie “Over the Top”, probably on some late night crappy movies cable tv channel and decided he should use his experience with previous fighting styles and try to recreate his past but with Arm Wrestling.
Now there are many other people out there who have been trying to promote Arm Wrestling since forever! What could poor Art Davies do? How about combine Arm Wrestling with his previous experience in Mixed Martial Arts?
But how can you do this without it turning into a farce of a fight, much like NHL Hockey fights where two people grab a hold of each other and punch the oppositions helmet until the refs come and break it up. Well Art didn’t think to long about it and went ahead anyway and here is the result.
Total and utter madness! You can get the gist from the clip above but you can also watch some full matches of this madness on youtube.
For some reason someone even made an iphone version of this as a game, we’ll never know why or if it even sold 1 copy!
Madness, pure madness! can anyone think of the next two sports people are going to mash up?
